We apply our holistic design perspective to new construction projects and extensive renovations throughout Maine.
A SENSE OF PLACE
“A Sense of Place” goes beyond the materials and possessions a home is composed of; it’s our chosen environment. For us, that is Maine, with her shifting seasons, layered landscapes, and storied foundation.
While meaningful, this high-level view of home cannot hold the entire narrative. Our work is rooted in the belief that these outward characteristics have an internal impact—that the place we choose to spend our days says something about who we are and how we live. Inspired by these connections, we design homes built to embrace them and artfully curated collections of modern heirlooms—designed to be seen, touched, and enjoyed by generations.
FOUNDER & INTERIOR DESIGNER
Jenny Morrison
Jenny Morrison's career in residential design began in the family general contracting business, where she immediately recognized the tension between the creative and technical in building a custom home. She fell in love with the storytelling that great design brought to a well-built structure and was inspired to cultivate a design process that is as intentional as it is artistic.
After pursuing and completing a formal education in design, Jenny founded Morrison Design House—an embodiment of her passion for natural interiors and craftsman furnishings alongside her construction-informed expertise. Every space she designs transcends aesthetic to reflect the values, rhythms, and relationships of the lives inside.
MINDFUL DESIGN
Our Approach
We are passionate about creating spaces that fit organically into their landscape and their owner's fullest lives. We accomplish this by studying each client and their inner lives as well as the characteristics of their home site that they feel kinship with. Our designs are not defined by a specific design aesthetic but by our ability to channel these intangible qualities into architectural details, textiles, furnishings, and design elements.
-
Our work is deeply influenced by Biophilic Design, or the methodology of increasing homeowners’ connections with nature—and therefore, overall wellness—through direct and indirect experiences as well as the use of materials and lighting.
-
We believe that the comfort of home can be measured in every element’s ability to perform as a true expression of who you are and how you interact with the world around you. A thoughtfully designed and collected home is a warm embrace and an honest reflection.
-
We strive to create homes that dilute the barriers that keep us from living our most connected lives—bringing the outside world in and holding space for the unique dynamics and relationships that already exist there.
